Counting Coconut Trees: A New Bundle of Emergent Readers

Go to my TPT page to download an emergent reader and counting book to practice numbers 0-5. This bundle goes along perfectly with a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom unit!

What's even better? One of the versions is FREE on my TPT page. Please download the free version and use it in your classroom.

The Little School Bus

What a fun week on The Farm! Although it was a short week, we fit in a lot of learning and a lot of fun!

At our school, we use Reading Street, so this week we started with Unit 1, Week 1. The story this week was The Little School Bus by Carol Roth. We learned how to sequence the animals in the story, talked about the words that rhymed, and learned what a character was.

There are endless resources that go along with a school bus theme. During Fun Friday today, we made two crafts that also reinforced our math theme this week: SHAPES! We had so much fun today and I hope they enjoyed making these buses.

(School Bus Snack: 1 graham cracker, frosting dyed with food coloring, 4 shredded wheat bites, and 2 oreo minis. Enjoy!)

MY FIRST LITTLE READER

I am so excited to announce that tonight I made my first little reader. It is for sale on my TPT page. Although it may not look like much, I am proud of it! And I am very excited to create more little readers to use in my classroom and to share with other teachers. :)

Goals

Isn't it so true that EVERY moment matters? Sure, we all have days where we've felt less effective than others, but I've found that setting goals for myself helps me make meaning to my lessons!

Just as I have goals for myself as a teacher, I need to display clear, precise goals for my students. As soon as they know what's expected of them, they are more likely to work towards that goal. Also, don't set the bar too low. Give your kids a lot of credit and praise and they will work hard to please you and fulfill themselves!

One simple way that I set goals for my students is by using a bulletin board to display the goals. Because my students can't read yet, we discuss the goals together. This is a positive way to begin and end the week. Some goals stay up for weeks at a time, while others are interchanged throughout the school year. And lastly, a goal board similar to mine is a great way for your Administrator, Guest Teacher, Title Teacher, etc. to know what you are working on that week.

Here are pictures of the Goal Board in my classroom. Thank you to Renee and Lisa for finding these goals and giving them to me! :)

I challenge to to post, write, or even discuss goals with your class next week. Don't forget to follow up every now and then and watch as students shine when they've met a goal that you posted!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear

Brown Bear, Brown Bear. What Do You See?

This was by far my favorite week! We had so much fun with all of the resources that we used. My favorite day was Friday. We practiced cutting, gluing and tracing.

We used coffee to sprinkle on our gluey bears. The kids thought this was the greatest thing! And our classroom smelled wonderful.

Wondering where I got all of this wonderful Brown Bear stuff? Head over to TPT and buy the packet made by Julie Lee. Here is the link:

We also made our own little readers and learned about our popcorn words, "I" and "a". These were created by Kroger's Kindergarten and below is the link where you can download these readers on TPT. The kids LOVED them!

I already cannot wait until Brown Bear week next school year!

Here it is read by the author, Bill Martin Jr. :)
